Overview

5 days of Tuscan flavors, wine, cooking class, truffle and medieval villages

An itinerary designed for guests who wish to experience Tuscany through its most authentic flavors, with Certaldo as their base. This medieval village, linked to Giovanni Boccaccio, is the ideal starting point to discover the Val d’Elsa, San Gimignano, Chianti and San Miniato.

The stay can be arranged in a hotel, resort or agriturismo, depending on the desired style: either a more central and convenient accommodation, or a property immersed in the Tuscan countryside, surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and relaxing views.

The itinerary is designed for guests traveling with their own car or a rental car, in order to easily reach wineries, agriturismos, villages and local farms.

DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN CERTALDO AND FLAVORS OF BOCCACCIO’S VILLAGE

Arrival in Certaldo and check-in at the selected hotel, resort or agriturismo.

In the afternoon, first walk through Certaldo Alto, one of the most charming villages in the Val d’Elsa, with its brick-paved alleys, historic houses, Palazzo Pretorio and the House of Giovanni Boccaccio.

This first day is ideal for immediately entering the atmosphere of the journey, with a typical dinner in the village or in an agriturismo. Among the symbolic products of the area, the Certaldo Onion can also be highlighted: a Slow Food Presidium available in two main varieties, Statina, sweeter and more typical of summer, and Vernina, more intense and suitable for the winter season.

Recommended experience: tasting dinner with local products and traditional Tuscan dishes.

DAY 2: SAN GIMIGNANO, VERNACCIA AND WINERY TASTING

After breakfast, departure by car to San Gimignano, famous for its medieval towers and the unique charm of its historic center.

The day will be dedicated to discovering the village and its flavors. Walk through Piazza della Cisterna, Piazza del Duomo, artisan shops and panoramic viewpoints over the hills.

Afterwards, winery experience with tasting of Vernaccia di San Gimignano, the historic white wine of the area. The Vernaccia di San Gimignano Consortium was founded in 1972, and Vernaccia obtained DOCG status in 1993, the highest recognition under Italian wine legislation.

Light lunch or tasting with wines, extra virgin olive oil, cured meats, pecorino cheeses and Tuscan crostini.

Return to Certaldo in the afternoon.

Experience of the day: Vernaccia wine tasting and local products.

DAY 3: CHIANTI, COOKING CLASS AND DINNER WITH THE DISHES PREPARED

A day dedicated to Chianti, among scenic roads, vineyards, stone villages and wineries.

Departure towards the area of Barberino Tavarnelle, Badia a Passignano, Greve in Chianti or Castellina in Chianti, with photo stops along the way.

The highlight of the day will be a Tuscan cooking class, designed to offer guests a practical, convivial and authentic experience. Guided by expert chefs, they will prepare typical recipes such as fresh pasta, traditional sauces, seasonal dishes and desserts.

At the end of the lesson, lunch or dinner will be served with the dishes prepared during the cooking class, accompanied by local wine.

Chianti Classico is one of the most iconic wine areas in Tuscany, and the Chianti Classico Consortium presents itself as the first wine consortium in Italy.

Experience of the day: Tuscan cooking class with final lunch or dinner.

DAY 4: SAN MINIATO, TRUFFLE AND GOURMET LUNCH

After breakfast, departure by car to San Miniato, a village famous for white truffle and its strong gastronomic identity.

The day can be enriched with a true gourmet experience: truffle hunting with an expert truffle hunter and dog, through woods and hills. At the end of the experience, lunch or tasting with typical products and, where included, truffle-based dishes.

San Miniato is one of the symbolic places for white truffle in Tuscany and hosts a National White Truffle Market Exhibition, traditionally held over the last three weekends of November.

In the afternoon, walk through the historic center of San Miniato and return to Certaldo.

Experience of the day: truffle hunting with tasting lunch.

DAY 5: OLIVE OIL, AGRITURISMO AND DEPARTURE

After breakfast, the final day is dedicated to the simple and authentic flavors of the Tuscan countryside.

Depending on the departure schedule, it is possible to include a visit to an olive mill or local farm, with tasting of extra virgin olive oil, Tuscan bread, garden produce, cured meats and local cheeses.

Alternatively, final lunch in an agriturismo with a typical Tuscan menu, ideal for ending the journey with a convivial and relaxed experience.

Check-out and departure.

Recommended experience: EVO oil tasting or final lunch in an agriturismo.
