Overview

5 days of trekking, e-biking, nature, medieval villages and Tuscan flavors

An itinerary designed for dynamic travelers who wish to experience Tuscany in a more active way, with Certaldo as their base, combining outdoor activities, medieval villages, rolling landscapes and food and wine experiences.

The stay can be arranged in a hotel, resort or agriturismo, depending on the desired style: either a convenient property close to the town center and train station, or an agriturismo immersed in the Tuscan countryside, ideal for relaxing after the daily activities.

Guests may travel with their own car or a rental car, which is recommended in order to easily reach some outdoor experiences, wineries and starting points for the activities.

DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN CERTALDO AND WALK THROUGH BOCCACCIO’S VILLAGE

Arrival in Certaldo and check-in at the selected hotel, resort or agriturismo.

In the afternoon, the journey begins with a light activity: a walk through Certaldo Alto, the medieval village linked to the figure of Giovanni Boccaccio. The historic center is the perfect place to start the trip with a panoramic walk among brick-paved alleys, views over the hills and historic landmarks such as Boccaccio’s House and Palazzo Pretorio.

To make the day more active, it is possible to include a short walking route between Certaldo Basso and Certaldo Alto, or a guided walk through the village with a historical and literary focus.

Dinner on your own or typical Tuscan dinner.

Activity of the day: panoramic walk and visit to Certaldo Alto.
Intensity: easy.
Ideal for: first introduction to the area and settling in.

DAY 2: TREKKING FROM CERTALDO TO SAN GIMIGNANO

After breakfast, the day is dedicated to one of the most scenic routes in the area: the walk from Certaldo to San Gimignano, through hills, gravel roads, vineyards, Tuscan countryside and medieval views.

This route is particularly interesting because it combines physical activity, nature and culture: starting from Certaldo, guests gradually approach the iconic skyline of San Gimignano, the village of towers. Some hiking trails connect Certaldo and San Gimignano along hilly paths and sections linked to the Via Francigena area.

Arrival in San Gimignano and free time to walk through the historic center. Possibility of a light lunch or tasting of local products.

Return to Certaldo by private transfer, taxi or a combination of bus and train via Poggibonsi, depending on the travel arrangements.

Activity of the day: trekking from Certaldo to San Gimignano.
Intensity: medium.
Recommended experience: guided trekking with organized return transfer.
Operational note: light trekking shoes, water and technical clothing are recommended.

DAY 3: E-BIKE TOUR THROUGH CHIANTI, VINEYARDS AND WINERIES

A day dedicated to discovering the area by e-bike, one of the best ways to experience the Tuscan hills in an active yet accessible way.

The itinerary can take place around Certaldo, San Gimignano, Barberino Tavarnelle and the Chianti area, passing through secondary roads, vineyards, olive groves and small villages. In this area, e-bike tours and rentals are available, with guided or self-guided routes through the hills between Florence, Siena and Pisa; some tours also include the San Gimignano and Chianti areas.

During the day, it is possible to include a stop at a winery for a tasting of wine, extra virgin olive oil and typical local products.

Return to Certaldo in the afternoon.

Activity of the day: e-bike tour through hills, vineyards and villages.
Intensity: easy/medium, adjustable thanks to pedal assistance.
Recommended experience: guided e-bike tour with final tasting.
Ideal for: active guests who are not necessarily expert cyclists.

DAY 4: VAL D’ELSA OUTDOOR – RIVER TREKKING, GENTLE RAFTING OR SENTIERELSA

After breakfast, departure by car towards the Colle Val d’Elsa area, one of the most interesting places for outdoor activities connected to water and nature.

The day can be arranged in two different ways:

Soft option: walk along the SentierElsa, a nature trail following the Elsa River, known for the turquoise color of its water and its cool, shaded environment. The route is appreciated for its natural setting, although some sections require attention, such as small crossings and passages close to the river.

More active option: rafting, packrafting, kayaking or river trekking in Val d’Elsa, with expert guides and dedicated equipment. Local operators in the area offer river experiences between Colle Val d’Elsa and Poggibonsi, with activities designed to discover Tuscany from a more adventurous perspective.

Lunch on your own or organized picnic.

Return to Certaldo in the afternoon.

Activity of the day: river trekking, gentle rafting, kayaking or SentierElsa walk.
Intensity: easy/medium, depending on the chosen option.
Recommended experience: guided river trekking or packrafting in Val d’Elsa.
Operational note: activity subject to seasonality, river conditions and guide availability.

DAY 5: ACTIVE FLORENCE – URBAN TREKKING AND PANORAMIC VIEWS

After breakfast, departure for Florence, reachable from Certaldo by train or by car. To keep the active spirit of the journey, the day can be designed as a true urban trekking experience.

The itinerary can start from the historic center, passing through Piazza del Duomo, Piazza della Signoria, Ponte Vecchio and the Oltrarno district, before continuing uphill on foot towards Piazzale Michelangelo and San Miniato al Monte, one of the most beautiful panoramic viewpoints over the city.

The uphill walk makes the visit more dynamic and allows guests to experience Florence not only as a city of art, but also as an active experience made of walks, stairways, viewpoints and historic neighborhoods.

Lunch on your own in the city center or in the Oltrarno area.

In the afternoon, return to Certaldo and end of services.

Activity of the day: urban trekking in Florence with panoramic uphill walk.
Intensity: easy/medium.
Recommended experience: guided walking tour focused on panoramic Florence and the Oltrarno district.
