DAY 1 FLORENCE
Explore legendary Florence today, a UNESCO World Heritage Site set on the banks of the Arno River. Florence came into its own as a commercial and cultural center during the 13th century, when merchants and tradesmen organized guilds that commissioned works of art to adorn their churches and palaces. It was this revival of interest in art and architecture that gave birth to the Italian Renaissance, an amazing outburst between the 14th and 16th centuries that completely changed the face of this Tuscan town. The names of the great artists of Florence define the Renaissance—Dante, Boccaccio, Fra Angelico, Donatello, Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, and Michelangelo.
Begin your exploration of Florence with a morning walking tour of the city, which includes the glorious square of the Duomo, where you can marvel at the marble façade of the cathedral and its remarkable octagonal dome, designed by Brunelleschi, one of the most magnificent structures of Renaissance Florence. While there, you’ll also view the Gates of Paradise, impressive bronze doors that intricately depict scenes from the Bible. Continue on to the Piazza Signoria, the political center of Renaissance Florence.
For lunch we suggest you the opportunity to try a local delicacy: lampredotto, a popular street food sandwich made of tripe (the edible lining of cow intestine) slow-cooked in a broth of onions, tomato, and other ingredients until it has the texture of tender roast beef, served on crunchy bread.
Afternoon Free for your own discoveries. You may wish to visit one of the many fine Florentine leather showrooms or choose between one of our best artisan proposals.
DAY 2 PISA & LUCCA
Or, join us on an optional tour to the city of Pisa, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is famous for so much more than its iconic Leaning Tower. You’ll explore the Piazza dei Miracoli (the Square of Miracles)—decorated by the stunning marble architecture of its Cathedral, the Baptistery (with its marvelous echo), and, yes, the Leaning Tower.
You’ll stand beneath this famous tower, which brings to mind one of civilization’s most illustrious names—Galileo Galilei, the genius who helped to found modern science. At the square’s Cathedral, you can still view the lamp that inspired Galileo’s theory of the pendulum. He used the vantage point of the top of Pisa’s celebrated Leaning Tower to demonstrate principles of speed and velocity.
Afternoon we move to LUCCA for a guided tour of the city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Nestled in a verdant valley, this gem of Tuscany features ancient architecture and customs that have withstood the tests of time. This can be seen most readily in the well-preserved city walls which have surrounded the city since the 17th century, when they successfully defended against the advances of Florence during the rise of the Medici—they encompass a wide expanse of red terra-cotta roofed homes, and the eye-catching Case-Torri or “Tower Houses” of wealthy families.
You’ll see the walls up close during your tour, which also takes you though Lucca’s charming piazzas, including Piazza dell’ Anfiteatro, where a ring of medieval buildings outline the site of the city’s former amphitheater, which was used to hold thousands of spectators for gladiator games. Enjoy the laid-back pace of the city as you explore, and break bread with the locals during a visit to a local establishment. Following your tour, you’ll have a little time to amble around the city independently.
DAY 3 SIENA & SAN GIMIGNANO
Embark on a captivating full-day tour to explore the medieval splendor of Siena and San Gimignano, two of Tuscany’s most treasured cities. This journey will take you through the heart of the Tuscan countryside, where you will discover the rich history, breathtaking architecture, and enduring cultural heritage of these UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Our adventure begins in Siena, a city that once rivaled Florence in wealth and power during the Middle Ages. Built on three ridges and dominating the land between the valleys of Arbia and Elsa, Siena was a flourishing hub for banking, wool, and textile trade from the 12th to the 16th centuries. This prosperity allowed the city to develop an extraordinary architectural heritage, which you will explore on a guided walking tour through its historic center.
As we arrive in Siena, you will immediately notice the city’s distinctive red-brick architecture, which has remained remarkably well-preserved over the centuries. Our expert guide will lead you through the cobblestone streets and narrow alleys that wind their way up and down the city’s hilly terrain. Along the way, you’ll pass by grand medieval palaces, many adorned with elegant Gothic frames in white marble, giving the city an air of the Tuscan Middle Ages that still lingers today.
Our first stop is the Piazza del Campo, Siena’s central square and one of the most beautiful in all of Italy. This shell-shaped piazza is famous for its unique sloping design, which converges at the base of the imposing Palazzo Pubblico, or Town Hall. The slender, 334-foot tall Torre del Mangia, an Italianate tower, soars above the piazza, offering a striking contrast against the surrounding landscape. The guide will share the history of the Palazzo Pubblico, a masterpiece of Gothic architecture, and explain its significance as the seat of the Sienese government.
As we explore the square, you’ll have the opportunity to admire the stunning palaces that encircle it, dating from the 12th to the 16th centuries. Each building has its own story, contributing to the rich tapestry of Siena’s history. The guide will point out the Palazzo Chigi-Saracini, now home to the prestigious Accademia Musicale Chigiana, and the Palazzo Sansedoni, with its elegant façade.
Next, we’ll make our way to the Palazzo Salimbeni, home to Monte dei Paschi di Siena, the oldest surviving bank in the world, founded in 1472. As you stand before this historic building, the guide will recount the fascinating story of how Siena became a financial powerhouse in the Middle Ages and the role the bank played in the city’s economic success.
Our walk continues towards the highest point of the city, where we will visit the Siena Cathedral (Duomo di Siena). This stunning Gothic structure, with its black and white striped marble exterior, is one of the most impressive churches in Italy. Inside, you’ll be captivated by the intricate mosaic floors, the richly decorated chapels, and the colorful frescoes in the Piccolomini Library, painted by the master artist Pinturicchio and influenced by Raphael’s mentor, Pietro Perugino. The guide will delve into the history of the cathedral, explaining the significance of its art and architecture, and how it reflects Siena’s ambitions and religious devotion.
Afternoon in San Gimignano: The Skyline of Towers
After a morning immersed in the medieval charm of Siena, we’ll journey through the rolling hills of Tuscany to reach San Gimignano, another jewel of the region. Known as the “Medieval Manhattan” due to its impressive skyline of towers, San Gimignano offers a glimpse into a world where architecture was a symbol of power and prestige.
As we enter San Gimignano, the guide will explain how this small town became a crucial stop along the Via Francigena, the ancient pilgrimage route to Rome. Its strategic location brought wealth and prosperity, leading to the construction of numerous towers by the town’s noble families, each trying to outdo the other in height and grandeur.
Our first destination is the Torre Grossa, the tallest of San Gimignano’s towers, standing at 177 feet. This climb is a highlight of the tour, offering a panoramic view of the town’s rooftops and the surrounding Tuscan countryside. As you ascend the steps, the guide will share stories of the fierce rivalries between the town’s noble families, who built these towers as a display of their wealth and power. The view from the top is truly breathtaking, providing a unique perspective on the town’s medieval layout and the lush vineyards and olive groves that stretch out to the horizon.
After descending the tower, we’ll embark on a guided stroll through San Gimignano’s narrow, winding streets. The guide will lead you past historic buildings, such as the Palazzo Comunale, where the town’s council once met, and the Collegiata di Santa Maria Assunta, the town’s main church, known for its beautiful frescoes depicting scenes from the Old and New Testaments.
As we walk, you’ll have the chance to explore some of San Gimignano’s artisanal shops, where you can find handcrafted ceramics, leather goods, and other local products. The guide will point out the best places to purchase souvenirs and will share insights into the town’s traditional crafts.
No visit to San Gimignano would be complete without sampling its most famous product: Vernaccia di San Gimignano. This crisp, dry white wine has been produced in the region since the 13th century and was the first Italian wine to receive the DOC designation in 1966. The guide will take you to one of the town’s historic wine cellars, where you’ll enjoy a tasting of Vernaccia, accompanied by local cheeses and cured meats. As you sip the wine, the guide will explain the unique characteristics of Vernaccia, its production process, and its importance to the local economy.
This full-day tour is designed to offer a comprehensive and immersive experience, allowing you to connect with Tuscany’s rich history and culture in an intimate and personal way.
DAY 4 EXPLORING CHIANTI REGION AND ITS CULINARY EXPERIENCE

Your day begins with a scenic drive through the heart of the Tuscan countryside, where every bend in the road reveals breathtaking vistas of perfectly aligned vineyards and olive groves stretching as far as the eye can see. Along the way, you’ll stop at one of the region’s historic wineries, where you’ll have the opportunity to sample the famous Chianti Classico wine, paired with insights into the traditional winemaking techniques that have made this area world-renowned.
After the wine tasting, your experience continues to SICHEF, a traditional Tuscan villa, nestled in the verdant hills of Chianti. Here, under the guidance of a local chef, you’ll participate in an engaging cooking class that will introduce you to the secrets of Tuscan cuisine. You’ll learn to prepare classic dishes using fresh, local ingredients, such as handmade pasta, rich sauces, and traditional desserts. As you cook, the chef will share stories and anecdotes about the recipes, passed down through generations.

The day concludes with a leisurely stroll through the surrounding vineyards, where you can take in the golden light of the sunset as it bathes the hills in a magical glow.
