Meeting set in Piazza Matteotti, under the statue of Giovanni da Verrazzano at 8:45 am. We will leave the village and start to climb up to Uzzano Castle, theatre of medieval battles and birthplace of Niccolò da Uzzano.
We will admire the medieval walls and the subsequent Renaissance villa.
After this short stop, we will continue our climb through woods of downy oak, cypress and holm oak and discover a wilder Chianti, unknown to most people, used to think of this territory only in terms of vineyards and olive groves.
The excursion takes place at the foot of Monte San Michele (892 m a.s.l.), the highest peak of the Chianti Mountains. We will reach the enchanted village of Convertoie, the locality of Riseccoli and, after passing the highest point of the route at about 400 meters above sea level, we will start the descent. We will walk along the walls of Villa Caprolo and around 12:50/13:00 we will reach the Azienda Agricola Terre di Melazzano.
We will visit the winery and have lunch tasting the wines produced here.
We will leave again around 14:30 and after about 30 minutes we will reach the square of Greve, the final point of the excursion.
